Informed Consent
Informed consent refers to the responsibility of healthcare providers to supply patients a diagnosis of their medical condition, recommended treatment with its benefits and risks and alternatives—including no treatment at all—so that when a patient consents to treatment, it is informed consent.
In brief office visits during which a prescription is handed to the patient, truly informed consent is seldom if ever achieved. But it is, in fact, vital if a patient is to retain control of their own health and life.
Dr. Dolan is dedicated to educating the public on how to make their medical choices based on objective, unbiased data. In books and articles, she provides “both sides of the story” regarding treatment, pharmaceuticals and even the medical industry itself, always using language a layman can understand.
